the original programme handbooks used by LASALLE (one of the leading contemporary arts institutions located in singapore) were plain ms word, arial-typefaced, hundred-paged documents containing information (for example: module, assessment and grading information) that was hard to read and yet vital to all students and teaching staff.
the new handbooks had to be accessible on print and screen format, and simple to read with important texts clearly emphasized for both students and lecturers. (an original requisite was that everything had to be done in microsoft word.)
each faculty was assigned a distinctive colour that complemented the college's existing identity. a simple alphabetical system was implemented to divide the handbook into sections (indicated in the contents and marked on each spread). the covers were kept simple with a graphical representation of LASALLE – the 'x's represent the entire student population, the darker ones being the students of that particular programme.
